I'm looking for my next 4x4......... probably gonna go fullsize - as much as I loved my TJ, I need something bigger for the whole family, and something I could use for work as well - plus towing a trailer will be a plus for the future

Tom,

For your application, I would get the new body style Toyota Tundra with the big motor. Almost 3/4 ton size parts in a 1/2 ton package.

Hey Tom,
Everyone has their own idea of what is the perfect 4x4. I have gone the different routes and still come back to the one truth. You can't roll everything into one 4x4 and expect it to do everything well. That's why I got the Jeep, the Bronco is too big for most of the runs & not big enough to tow with, that's where the F-350 comes in. I have owned everything from the mini to full size. If you want a 4x4 to do what a Jeep will do, buy a Jeep (man I hate saying that...lol), and a truck/suv for everything else.

Well that's my useless two cents worth...LOL
Terry

yeah, I've been going back and forth on what to get, and have decided on a fullsize rig - either K5 Blazer or Bronco. they are super cheap right now with everyone going to better mileage cars. as much as I'd love another jeep, I don't want to start all over with a basic TJ - I'll save my $$ for when my expedition dies, then go for a 4 Door Rubicon - for the wife of course ;) the fullsize rigs just seem to fit my family better right now - you ever try to get 2 child seats in the back of a TJ? it doesn't work too well - and I can't drive very long with my seat all the way up, it gets a little cramped. plus being in an arm lock with my passanger gets a little uncomfortable too.

I have another solution, get a 4 door JK, it will go anywhere from what I've seen and will fit the whole family so you get the best of both worlds, hard core Off-Road and comfy family car! You can actual buy a used 2007 pretty cheap these days too.

sorry Mark, but if I'm going to spend $25k on a toy, it ain't gonna get beat-up. I was looking at the JK's, but I don't want any payments right now, and I don't want to start over with a stocker. If I ever get a jeep again it will be a rubicon

I think it really depends on your driving attitude, my Red Jeep never got beat-up, not until driving home from work on the street did It ever get body damage. Some scrapes on the underside yes which we always touched up with a little black bumper paint after hitting the spray-n-wash. Now we have a new Jeep and will not take unnecessary risks until we have properly protected those areas which are vulnerable with plenty of armor. Even playing it safe we have lots of fun and look forward to the day when additional body armor, & skid plates, etc safely allow greater challenges such as the V-Notch on Last Chance Canyon. Because we use our Jeep as a Daily Driver also adds incentive to play it safe when on the trail until the day comes when money is plenty and the Jeep retires to a Trail Toy my moto will need to remain safe and sane but still have some fun. Another good option might be a cheap older project Jeep like Terry just found. I did not want to start over building up a stocker either, now I am enjoying it and just being happy to have any Jeep which can take me wheeling with the Club again and praying my back injuries will allow me to continue.

By the way, were selling tickets to Win the 2008 4 door Unlimited CA4WDC Sweepstakes vehicle!

Hey Tom,
I have thought of the same thing, once I get things paid off, I would like to invest in a newer Jeep. I like the 06 Rubi 2 door.

I'm waiting for the JK with a Hemi - if you've looked in the engine bay, you'll see there's plenty of room for a V-8, I think they did that on purpose :)

Tom,
Extreme 4x4 installed one in a Jeep, there is a kit to do it the correct way. If I can get all my ducks in a row, I will do the same thing. For now, I will play with the CJ-7 and have fun with little money. You know of anybody that has a burning desire to donate CJ parts to a project... :D I will be glad to take them.
