O|||||O We went and looked at a 66 CJ5 today, but couldnt find the vin number anywhere; Can anybody help us locate it. It isnt registered or plated right now but that would be the first thing we do. If we cant find or it doesnt have a vin number we'll have more to deal with, would it even be worth it? Our big thing is we want one that we dont have to worry about smoging it but at the same time want to be able to make it handle almost any kind of trail that we dare to try. I heard you couldnt make them into rock crawlers: Is that true and why? Please any kind of information would be helpful! We really cant wait to get it started and soon/one day go on a jeep run. Again thank you! O|||||O

not sure about the vin plate location, but you can make anything into a rock crawler, it's just that certain vehicles might take more work than others

I thought that was werid when it was said that you couldnt make it into a rock crawler, I thought I just didnt know enough about it. There is truth about it, I dont know a whole lot about them as in all possiablities. But thats some of the excitment about taking on a project. We have a friend that has a jeep and we have helped him fix it before and my Dad has a jeep and is into it 100%. We are excited about it.

I have recieved an email that the vin is located on the firewall, if it was removed; Could we also hind it on the frame? Also how would we prove what year it is when we take it down to get it registered. Should we just cont to look on? Before we get a project car we dont want to put time and money into it if we cant even put it in our name or get it reg. Has anyone ever dealt with this issue? Thank you again!

I have dealt with this issue before, but I don't recall it being a big deal. I bought a 79 F250 that had no vin plates on it, from what I remember the DMV had me take it over to the local CHP station and their mechanic added vin plates to it. I'd check w/ the dmv to see what's all involved now, and what the fees would be. does it have a license plate, or an old registration?

The VIN tag should be on the driver's side of the firewall with 4 philips head screws. It will have the old Jeep logo on it as well.

thanx Tommy
