Hey JP,
Is the new axle passenger drop or driver drop? The ad on pirate says they are bolt in to a yj. Which is drivers drop. I thought your CJ was passenger side drop?

The pics he sent me show it's a passenger drop, so it'll work, I'll bring them tonight to the meeting.
I haven't heard back from the guy so I got a little concerned and started another search through a buddies shop, I pull up in my fully smiling happy jeep and asked if he knew of a dana 60 for me and the guy standing next to him said "Take mine, it's brand new, maybe 300 miles on it, cost me $3500.00 to build and I know I'll take a loss, make me an offer!" So yeah, it's a brand new built 60 4.56 gears, locker, 35 spline axles I think, big discs, 5 lug on 5 1/2.... The other axles are $1500.00, maybe $500 shipping, I'm getting both front and rear with lockers, the condition are pretty beat up I'm guessing, but geared more of what my goal is 5.38's, 6 lug..... Damn what to do, what to do!!!! Anybody have any suggestions? I did finally hear back from him so the deal is still available.

I know Jim, I'm pretty excited to get it done, it's a ton of work but at least I have the ability and a pretty well set up work site for it.... Just remember if anyone want's a hoist I can get them for about $1500 - $2000 I'm also going with a ram assist steering since I did blow my pump last weekend as well I just found out today. It will certainly be exciting to be able to steer out there.

Sounds like your buddy's D60 is a custom built one. 5X5.5 is usually custom stuff like Currie, Dynatrack, Solid (Rockcrusher)etc. 5x5.5 would also mean semi-float. Your buddy's 35 spline axles would also be stonger than the 6 lug ones. I'm guessing the 6 lug has 30 spline axles which is D44 size with maybe a slightly larger shaft diameter. You'd have to get the BOM number to be certain.
Also, you could run your front D30 till you found a comparable front 60.

Hey John,
On the way to the meeting last night I got a hold of the guy in MI and picked his brain about them and it sounds like there was lots of welding and piecing together of his axles, at the meeting I spoke with all the guys and the general census was the D 60 at my buddies shop which is actually Mike Duncan at The 4x4 Doctor, he built the axle for the guy trying to get rid of it. I decided to go that route for the exact reasons you state. I called him last night and offered him $2000 for the axle, he's got to check with his broker who is pushing for him to get rid of it (the wife) I'll know this morning.... Thanks for your input. I'll let you know the outcome.
